Online Simulation Considering Production Uncertainties to Improve Assembly Quality

Resource Abstract

This paper presents a Finite Element (FE)-simulation based concept that applies in real-time processes, especially a concept of online simulation for assembly processes of exterior chassis parts considering production variabilities to improve gap and flushness quality. To overcome time limitations, model reduction techniques primarily Superelement(SE)-method is used. For considering geometric variabilities, a surface patch fitting approach is used. By combining the SE-method with the information of the fitted surface patches, a real-time simulation considering measured geometry can be performed. With this simulation setup the assembly optimization problem can be solved online during the production process. Using the simulation results assembly parameter sets can be derived for automated assembly processes.
