Non-Linear Finite Element Analysis of Indented Pressurised Pipes

This paper on "Non-Linear Finite Element Analysis of Indented Pressurised Pipes" was presented at the NAFEMS World Congress on Effective Engineering Analysis - 25-28 April 1999, Newport, Rhode Island, USA.

Abstract

Non-linear Finite Element analysis is used to study the structural integrity of pressurised pipes indented by rigid indenters. The analysis involves material, geometric and boundary non-linearities. The residual stresses and the indentation damage left in the pipe after the removal of the indenter are shown to be dependent on the sequence of loading and the support boundary conditions.
