Solution Accuracy of Finite-Element Modelling Techniques in Simulation of Cold Massive Forming

This paper on "Solution Accuracy of Finite-Element Modelling Techniques in Simulation of Cold Massive Forming" was presented at the NAFEMS World Congress on Design, Simulation & Optimisation: Reliability & Applicability of Computational Methods - 9-11 April 1997, Stuttgart, Germany.

Abstract

A great variety of modelling techniques is available today to engineers in design and development. Especially the use of the Finite Element Method offers the opportunity of getting important process information by simulation. Despite of the increasing versatility of modern hard- and software tools, the quality of the results still depends strongly on the decisions and choices made by the engineer during modelling the problem. This paper focuses on the accuracy of results furnished by commercially available FE-software in analysis of bulk forming, without trying to perform a benchmarking. Relevancy and influences of modelling options on the applicability of the obtained results are discussed.
