Structural Optimization for Nonlinear Dynamics

This paper on "Structural Optimization for Nonlinear Dynamics" was presented at the NAFEMS World Congress on Design, Simulation & Optimisation: Reliability & Applicability of Computational Methods - 9-11 April 1997, Stuttgart, Germany.

Abstract

This paper discusses methodology to optimize structures under impact loading. Objective and constraints are the transient dynamic response or the mass of the structure. The structural behavior is nonlinear dynamic. Approximation concepts to the structural optimization problem are compared. The method of local approximation using analytical sensitivity analysis is pointed out to be the most effective. An analytical design sensitivity analysis for the transient response of nonlinear structures is given.
