Error Estimation for Finite Element Eigenproblems

This paper on "Error Estimation for Finite Element Eigenproblems" was presented at the NAFEMS World Congress on Design, Simulation & Optimisation: Reliability & Applicability of Computational Methods - 9-11 April 1997, Stuttgart, Germany.

Summary

This paper demonstrates an effective error measure for the finite element eigenvalue problem. Examples of this type include natural frequency and linear elastic critical buckling load. The error estimator is derived by improving the accuracy of original finite element eigenvalue quantity using the original eigenvector and examining each element as a patch of elements in the model. Examples produced in this paper show the error measure to be quite robust and reliable.
