Reinforced Concrete Models for Combined Finite/Discrete Element Analysis

This paper on "Reinforced Concrete Models for Combined Finite/Discrete Element Analysis" was presented at the 5th International Conference on Reliability of Finite Element Methods for Engineering Applications - 10-12 May 1995, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Summary

In this work two reinforcement models for use with the combined finite/discrete element method are presented. The first model assumes no bond between concrete and reinforcement and is suitable for a post-tensioned type of prestressing while the second model assumes a bonding stress between concrete and reinforcement as a function of local slip. Solution methodology and associated computational algorithms are developed for transient dynamic situations and the applicability of the approach demonstrated by the solution of an impact loaded beam problem.
