Progress Towards a Standard for Finite Element Data

This paper on "Progress Towards a Standard for Finite Element Data" was presented at the 3rd International Conference on Quality Assurance and Standards in Finite Element Analysis - 10-12 September 1991, Stratford-upon-Avon, England.

Abstract

At present ISO is developing a new international standard for engineering data exchange - STEP, which will cover types of data such as materials and finite element input and results, for which there are no current standards. The paper describes the purpose and scope of the proposed standard, the principal contributors to its development and the current schedule for its release.
The paper also provides a brief introduction to the FEA data model within STEP and to the Express data modelling language which used for its representation.
