Tests of Reference for Dynamics Analysis in the Handbook "Validation of Structural Analysis Software"

This paper on "Tests of Reference for Dynamics Analysis in the Handbook "Validation of Structural Analysis Software" was presented at the International Conference on Quality Assurance and Standards in Finite Element Analysis - 22-25 May 1989, Stratford-upon-Avon, England.

Summary

The numerical simulation of structures and machines dynamical behaviour is an important part of structural analysis. In a Quality Assurance organization, the global validation of engineering software is a deterministic step.
The major difficulties to establish Quality Assurance procedure is to collect a set of representative tests.
To increase the efficiency of computer codes, French developers and users decide to merge experiences of several industrials and researchers to collect and validate reference tests in an handbook for validation. We describe the methodology used for the definition of this handbook.
For this point of view, the dynamic analysis carry out particular difficulties including modelling inertia or damping characteristics, boundary conditions and dynamic loading, as well as implementation of computation procedures.
One presents experiences gained in the course of building dynamic analysis tests

  • for the validation of a computer code developed by Electricité de France;
  • to prepare the Handbook of the French National Committee for Validation of Structural Analysis Software under the responsibility of the Société Française des Mécaniciens.

Some guidelines for tests construction and some examples are presented.
