Critical Comparison of Finite and Boundary Element Method

This paper on "Critical Comparison of Finite and Boundary Element Method" was presented at the International Conference on Quality Assurance and Standards in Finite Element Analysis - 13-15 May 1987, The Grand Hotel, Brighton.

Introduction to Paper

This paper attempts to compare the properties of finite and boundary elements and some of their results. Boundary elements are becoming a powerful tool for certain types of engineering analysis and users should be aware of the main advantages of the new method. In addition, as the technique is fundamentally different from finite elements, it offers the possibility of using it as a way of checking the accuracy and reliability of finite element codes.
