Some Problems Concerning the Reliability of Non-Linear Finite Element Analysis of Structural Concrete

This paper on "Some Problems Concerning the Reliability of Non-Linear Finite Element Analysis of Structural Concrete" was presented at the International Conference on Quality Assurance and Standards in Finite Element Analysis - 13-15 May 1987, The Grand Hotel, Brighton.

Summary

Non-linear finite element modelling of structural concrete is now highly sophisticated and can take into account most aspects of structural concrete material behaviour. Despite this maturity, certain difficulties still need to be resolved. This paper takes a broad look at the various modelling techniques for the short-term behaviour of reinforced concrete and discusses some of the difficulties in relation to testing the accuracy of solutions. Some problems which might be suitable as benchmark tests for general use are suggested.
