Modelling of the Interaction Between the Hydraulic Pad Bearing and Rotating Flexible Tube

This paper on "Modelling of the Interaction Between the Hydraulic Pad Bearing and Rotating Flexible Tube" was presented at the NAFEMS World Congress on The Evolution of Product Simulation From Established Methods to Virtual Testing & Prototyping - 24-28 April 2001, The Grand Hotel, Lake Como, Italy.

Summary

This paper describes the development of the model of a rotating flexible shell supported by hybrid pad bearings. Pad bearings locate inside of the flexible shell. The distance from inner surface of the shell of the hybrid pad bearing is controlled with hydraulic cylinder. All components (such as hydrostatic bearing, hydraulic cylinder, valve and hoses), control systems and interactions between these components and subsystems are modelled with in ADAMS® mechanical analysis software. The rotating flexible shell is modelled by using assumed modes method and mass matrix, stiffness matrix, mode shapes and corresponding frequencies are transferred to ADAMS from ANSYS®. The hydraulic system and pad bearing are modelled by using lumped fluid theory together with the semi-empirical method.
