Influence of mid-plane meshing on DFEM stiffness for typical aerospace structures

Mid plane meshing has been adopted as the standard approach for linear DFEMS by many aerospace companies. The advantages of this approach for multi-part DFEMS are obvious from a model integration perspective, when compared against more traditional coincident mesh approaches. Using mid plane meshing the parts can be meshed independently and finally assembled using automatic fastener generation tools.
