FEM – Multibody dynamics simulation of an engine cooling fan

The NAFEMS Eastern European 2020 Virtual Conference took place on the 23rd and 24th of September 2020. The event gave participants access to high level presentations in the field of structural mechanics, computational fluid dynamics, electromagnetics and discrete element methods.

Resource Abstract

The presentation deals with the finite element modeling of an engine cooling unit using Comsol Multiphysics. The purpose of the method is to examine changes made to the assembly that affect mechanical vibrations thus reducing the noise made by them. The model can act as a virtual twin so modifications can be evaluated before building a prototype. The simulation contains forces from flow simulations. The considerations of modeling are presented along the results.
