Modelling of Bones An Overview of FE Modelling of Bones: Bone Screws and their Interactions

Most engineers will have experience of bolted joints used in general engineering, and generally the properties for the materials are well known. However, whenit comes to the Finite Element (FE) modelling of screwed joints for bones, the material behaviour of the bones is more difficult to characterise and represent. This article gives a brief overview of bone characteristics, bone screws and some FE modelling techniques which have been developed to represent screwed bone joints.
