How Analysis Engineers Spend their Time

As the name of this very magazine implies, benchmarking the work of analysis engineers is essential to understand and improve working processes. In this spirit, here we report the results of an extensive study of how analysis engineers spend their time and the various tasks they undertake. We conducted the research in a major multi-national manufacturing engineering organization, in a follow-up project to earlier research that examined the work of design engineers using the same methodological approach. As psychologists, we adopted a broader research focus to include generic work activities as well as specialised tasks specific to the work of analysis engineers.
