Digital Twin - Looking Behind the Buzzwords

NAFEMS' Technical Working Groups and Regional Steering Committees are at the heart of what we do. The digital twin is a concept that touches all aspects of simulation, so to explore the topic, two web-meetings were held, open to representatives of all the NAFEMS technical working groups, at which the topic and some implications were considered. In total nearly 40 people from around the world joined in the discussions. During the two meetings, we focussed specifically on the definition and key simulation aspects of a digital twin, and the extent to which it is a reality, alongside any barriers that need to be overcome. This article summarises the opinions and ideas that were aired during the meetings.
