We focus on the practical application of numerical engineering simulation techniques such the Finite Element Method for Structural Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and Multibody Simulation. In addition to end users from all industry sectors, our stakeholders include technology providers, researchers and academics.New Column
Manufacturing Simulation covers a multitude of processes, materials, techniques, and methods. Almost every engineered object in use in industry or our homes has undergone a transforming process, taking it from a raw material to a finished product.
These processes change the shape and, in many cases, the properties of the raw material to make the desired item. Successful processes must create the end product to the required quality, without flaws or defects, in an efficient manner, with minimal environmental impact.
In order for processes to become successful, they must be predicted along with the key parameters, which introduces inevitable variation during the full period of production.
With this seminar, we will focus on the development and use of virtual modelling of manufacturing processes within the product design to improve robust outcomes in industrial manufacturing processes. This includes new approaches like AI/ML.
Keynote speakers
Torben Strøm Hansen, Tim Brix Nerenst (Novo Nordisk) Presentation title: Benefits of Integrating Simulations from Early Development to Production in a Platform-based Environment
Torben is a Solid Mechanics Specialist at Novo Nordisk's Final Product Development, overseeing the structural integrity of ongoing development projects. He has over 20 years of experience with FE applications, including Abaqus and 3D Experience physics apps. Besides simulation tasks, supervision and training of colleagues, he also spends time on competency development and academic collaboration. Furthermore, he is involved in the democratisation of simulation on different levels. Within Manufacturing Simulation, he has been involved in numerous simulation-based task force assignments, solving issues in running production.
Tim is the manager of Structural Simulations at Novo Nordisk within Product Supply, Final Product Development. With 6.5 years in structural simulation, he specializes in robustness and parametric studies for drug delivery devices and manufacturing processes. His current focus is on simulation strategy—competence development, democratization of methods and tools, and exploring verification and validation — supporting platform-based workflows that connect early development to production. Tim works with the 3DExperience platform, leveraging Design of Experiments and Robust CAD to drive efficient exploration and reliable decision-making. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from DTU.
Jens Ingemann Madsen (The LEGO Group) Presentation title: Simulation-driven product development at The LEGO Group
Jens started his career as a CFD simulation specialist and has about 25 years of industrial experience with applied simulation in different sectors. Today he serves as Director of Computer Aided Engineering at the LEGO Group, heading a centralized area that supports product engineering with simulation of LEGO product performance and manufacturing processes. He holds a Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering from Aalborg University and an MBA degree from Aarhus University.
Jarkko Laine (Wärtsilä) Presentation title: Manufacturing Technology’s Impact on Component Properties: Ductile Cast Iron and the Simulation of Local Thermal and Mechanical Characteristics
Jarkko has been working with casting-related issues since 1997 and has been with Wärtsilä since 2006. His role at Wärtsilä focuses on the development of castings, casting materials, and casting simulation techniques. The local thermal, mechanical, and fatigue properties of cast components are known to vary significantly. His primary task is to develop methods for predicting these properties.
Jesper Hattel (Technical University of Denmark, DTU) Presentation title: Multiphysics Modelling of Manufacturing Processes
Jesper´s research area is numerical modelling of manufacturing processes, such as casting, 3D-printing moulding and welding. The materials considered are metallic or polymers. The applications vary from micro-scale over parts for automotive industry to huge parts such as wind turbine blades. The area is highly cross-disciplinary and characterized by multi-physics modelling involving areas like CFD, Numerical Heat Transfer, Computational Metarials Science and Computational Solid Mechanics.

Favrholm campus is located 50 km from Copenhagen Airport and 35 km north of the centre of Copenhagen. The campus is 3 km from Hillerød railway station.

A standard NAFEMS site membership costs 1,410 euros per year, an academic site and entry membership costs 880 euros per year (as of 2025). NAFEMS site members receive eight seminar credits per year. Four seminar credits per participant are required for free participation in this event - it quickly pays off to become a member. If the seminar credits have already been used, NAFEMS members can participate at a reduced price.
