“Modeling” is a methodological approach or an activity seeking to provide a usable, effective, efficient and satisfactory representation of real world objects for end-users wanting to use these models to analyze or make critical decisions. Today, as Digitalization and Model-Based Processes are rapidly growing in the Systems and Product engineering domains, the number, the heterogeneity, and abstraction level of those models are exploding. Thus, we may not only question their “rightness” and validity, but we face as well the challenges of traceability, interoperability, and efficiency of model-based collaboration between disciplines.

PLM-centric platforms like the 3DEXPERIENCE are offering a unified and interconnected framework and engineering modules to support widely digital continuity and model traceability. However, third party applications and in-house models authored outside those platforms are necessary, making the transition to a definitive “single source of truth” unable to be achieved in the near future without managing design parameters and rules outside a unified PLM platform.

Bridging the gap between applications, disciplines, and models with an agnostic perspective, Parameter Management Software (PMS) provide a very straightforward answer with out-of-the-box capabilities and features to leverage heterogeneous processes in the context of a collaborative and concurrent process. Specifically, this presentation will show a PMS can easily enhance PLM platforms to share key product information and metadata and embrace the complexity and heterogeneity of engineering software and of the panorama of models.
